The improvements along a one-mile stretch of East Avion Street and East Jurupa Street will improve freight access to the airport while reducing congestion and vehicle emissions.
Improvements will include a new pavement, an additional lane in each direction, intersection signals, road markings and signs, utility infrastructure, grading and drainage.
Key elements of the project include reconstructing East Avion Street from South Vineyard Avenue to South Hellman Avenue and widening the road from two to four lanes.
East Avion Street will become a four-lane road from South Hellman Avenue to the Cucamonga Creek Channel.
East Jurupa Street will be reconstructed and widened from two lanes to four lanes between Cucamonga Creek Channel and South Archibald Avenue.
A four-lane bridge will be constructed over the Cucamonga Creek Avenue and a vacant structure will be demolished to accommodate the realigned roadway.
Torres says the airport is important for the economic development of the Inland Empire, which is why she has secured $500,000 of federal funding to improve road access.
She says, “Ontario Airport is an incredible asset for small businesses, manufacturers, and our families throughout the Inland Empire, one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, and I look forward to continuing working with airport officials and the community to expand and improve the airport for years to come.”
Atif Elkadi, CEO of Ontario International Airport Authority, adds, “Air cargo creates jobs and economic opportunity across our region and around the world. We are truly grateful for the support of Congresswoman Torres in helping advance these important roadway and infrastructure improvements that will help ensure ONT's role as an economic driver and job creator, while also improving traffic flows and reducing vehicle emissions.”
