Qatar Airways tests Gaussin pallet transporters

Qatar Airways Cargo has tested AMDT FULL ELEC pallet transporters from Gaussin, with deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.

The multi-directional transporters were developed by Gaussin in collaboration with Qatar Airways’ cargo handling subsidiary, Qatar Aviation Services Cargo.

The zero-emissions, 100% electric vehicle is compatible with all types of ULDs and has a payload of 7 tonnes and a battery life of up to 6 hours.

Powered by lithium metal polymer batteries capable of operating in high temperatures, the AMDT has been designed for Middle Eastern weather conditions.

It integrates weighing scales that can check pallet weight against tag weight, helping maintain safety and security of operations.

Guillaume Halleux, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways says: “We at Qatar Airways Cargo are proud to be using this innovation and to have played a part in its design, taking us a step closer to a more sustainable industry. Qatar Airways Cargo is aware of the challenges of tomorrow and is fully committed to building a greener future with its partners.”

Christophe Gaussin, CEO of Gaussin says: “Gaussin is pleased to be a partner of Qatar Airways Cargo, supporting it in its sustainable goals through its expertise in designing, assembling and offering smart, connected zero-emissions vehicles for freight transportation.”

Gaussin and Qatar Airways signed a contract for 6 units in 2020, with the option for another 50 to replace diesel pallet carriers.
