The funding contract was signed with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) to reconstruct over 80,000 square metres of hard surface, create aircraft stands in ten different configurations for Class A – E aircraft, and establish taxi and service roads.
The reconstruction will provide additional aircraft stands, contribute to military mobility and allow for the expansion of the cargo service area.
An electrical substation with two independent feeds is planned to provide Apron 4 with lighting and the power supply for aircraft stands in accordance with the latest EU requirements.
The establishment of storage areas for aircraft servicing equipment, installation of an aerodrome lighting system, the reconstruction of lightning masts and floodlights, the installation of a new video surveillance system and a rainwater drainage system are included in the project.
Proposals need to be submitted by Tuesday 8 April and the reconstruction of Apron 4 is expected to be completed by 2027.
Riga Airport’s development strategy includes creating a Cargo City around aprons 4 and 5.
In 2020, a cargo service area became operational in the area and DHL opened a logistics centre a year later.
Last month, airBaltic completed construction of the Baltic Cargo Hub at Riga Airport.
