The MMCC brings together handlers, freight forwarders, airlines, express couriers, road haulage companies, and logistics and technology partners, to work alongside SEA Milan Airports to structure and enhance the air cargo ecosystem.
The community was launched at air cargo Europe, part of the transport logistic trade fair, which was held in Munich, Germany from 2-5 June.
According to SEA Milan Airports, the aim is to transform this ecosystem “into a collaborative and integrated platform capable of collectively facing the challenges of the global [air cargo] market”.
Among the operational tools giving substance to the MMCC vision are the ‘Goods Services Charter’, which certifies operator performance through a shared monitoring system approved by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority.
Also in place in Italy is the Smart City ecosystem, which enables the digitalisation of processes and real-time information sharing between carriers, handlers, freight forwarders and the Italian customs authorities.
The MMCC is based on five pillars: Operational Efficiency; Global Connectivity; Innovation and Digitalisation; Environmental Sustainability; and Inclusive Development.
SEA Milan Airports noted: “This initiative represents a collective commitment toward a more efficient, sustainable and competitive future. It is a shared path by all stakeholders contributing to growth, positioning Italy as a leading player in the global air cargo flow.”
Milan Malpensa Airport currently holds a 60% share of the Italian air cargo market. In 2024, it handled over 782,000 tons of goods and 25,000 all-cargo plane movements.
