Skyports obtains LUC certificate in Ireland

Europe Drones
Skyports has obtained a Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC) from the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) permitting self-authorisation of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights.

The LUC is recognised in all European Union Aviation Safety Agency member countries, allowing operators to conduct flights without submitting a declaration first or obtaining authorisation from authorities beforehand.

With the LUC, Skyports will expand its drone delivery service within the medical, maritime and logistics sectors across Europe.

Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports says: “Obtaining certification is a landmark moment for our drone delivery business that will enable us to deploy our service more efficiently and meet our customers’ needs more quickly.”

Diarmuid O Conghaile, CEO Designate of the IAA adds: “Drone services are an increasingly important part of the commercial aviation landscape and provide a competitive alternative to traditional service delivery.”

Skyports has operated drone delivery services in the UK including delivering Covid-19 test kits in Scotland with the NHS and inter-island medical deliveries between the Isles of Scilly for Royal Mail.
