Strong nine month results for Kuehne + Nagel

Freight Forwarding
Profits at Kuehne + Nagel more than doubled in the first nine months of 2021 with air cargo making a significant contribution to the results.

Earnings for the period were up 133% to CHF1.3bn (Swiss francs), and in the third quarter, it was up 117% to CHF578m.

Net turnover for the airfreight sector was up 78% to CHF6.6bn in nine months, and were up 109% in the third quarter to CHF2.6bn.

Nine month EBIT was up 84% to CHF645m and third quarter EBIT increased 41% to CHF239m as it gained market share.

Kuehne + Nagel says limited capacity required tailor-made solutions, and services in pharma, essential goods, and e-commerce were in high demand.

Airfreight volumes increased 50% in the first nine months, with 20% of this coming from the acquisition of Chinese air freight forwarder, Apex.

Dr Detlef Trefzger, CEO of Kuehne + Nagel International says: “In the current situation with supply chains that are difficult to plan, our Kuehne + Nagel experts are working tirelessly to implement the best possible logistics solutions for our customers. We are on track and were again able to achieve an excellent business result in the third quarter. In the coming months, we do not expect any significant change in the constrained market situation.”
