Swissport grows pharma business in Dublin

Swissport International has invested in its pharma logistics business with the opening of a warehouse for temperature-controlled cargo at Dublin Airport.

The 400 square-metre facility in Dublin is the first of its size in the Irish capital, which has a cold storeroom fully dedicated to pharmaceuticals and is able to hold up to 200 pallets.

Opening the facility adds capacity for major pharmaceutical suppliers in the region and supports Ireland’s position as one of the largest net exporters of medicinal and pharmaceutical products within the EU.

Karen Cox, Managing Director and CEO of Swissport in the UK and Ireland, says, “Our customers from the pharmaceutical industry can now also rely on our professional services for temperature-controlled freight at Dublin Airport, supporting them with high quality handling services along the cool chain.”

The facility was built in partnership with Celtic Cooling and consistently operates between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.

It has been designed to minimise environmental impact using cooling technology that relies on propane gas, which has a low global warming potential compared to other refrigerants.

The warehouse has an additional unit capable of operating between 2 and 8 degrees.
