TIACA launches 4th Air Cargo Sustainability Awards

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has launched the 4th edition of its Air Cargo Sustainability Awards.

Sponsored by IT provider CHAMP Cargosystems, the awards are calling for applications to make positive changes in the areas of the environment, society and culture and leadership aligned with key objectives for sustainable air cargo found in TIACA’s Sustainability Roadmap.

Under the environment category, the three areas cover decarbonisation, eliminating waste and protecting biodiversity.

Society covers supporting local economies and communities, and improving lives and well-being.

The objectives under culture and leadership are improving efficiency and profitability, attracting, retaining and developing employees, and building and nurturing partnerships.

Once again, the awards will be split into a Corporate Prize for established corporations, organisations or scholars, and the Start-Up and Small Business Prize.

The latter offers a $10,000 prize for the winner and two runners-up will receive $2,500 each to develop their idea.

Applications are open until 2 September and all shortlisted candidates will receive access to exclusive TIACA events and speaking opportunities, publicity in TIACA’s communications and networking opportunities.

An independent industry and sustainability panel will select the corporate winner and three small/start-up finalists and they will be invited to present their solutions at the TIACA Air Cargo Forum held from 8-10 November in Miami, Florida.

Chris McDermott, CEO of CHAMP says: “Now in their 4th year, they have been successful in pioneering sustainability, raising awareness, and placing it high on the industry’s agenda. Past winners can inspire us to do even more, so that with continued commitment and hard work, sustainability is no longer an add-on, but moves to the core of our businesses.”

Steven Polmans, Chairman of TIACA says: “The past few years we have had a lot of strong applications submitted and we are excited to see all of the innovation and progress our industry has been making. We look forward to receiving this year’s applications that focus on the eight core objectives of our Sustainability Roadmap as we feel this is the path our industry needs to follow in order to become a sustainable industry.”
