TIACA launches BlueSky programme to measure sustainability

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has launched the BlueSky programme to help the industry measure and recognise sustainability progress.

The multi-tiered platform renews every two years with the different tiers allowing users to assess, verify and validate their progress.

Assessment guidelines are the first tier for companies to begin verifying and validating through awareness and self-assessment.

The second tier is desktop verification, beginning with an online assessment and verification of the documents provided, with a performance score provided through a company dashboard.

An onsite validation is the third tier, which includes the desktop verification and an onsite independent audit.

A performance score will be provided following the onsite validation with an excellence badge and a detailed report with recommendations on how to become more sustainable.

Steven Polmans, Chairman of TIACA says: “The impact that this program will have on the industry is profound, by bringing transparency and collaboration on such a vital topic “Sustainability”, we will see the industry develop into one that is truly focused on People, Planet and Prosperity.”

TIACA has also named XFret as the winner of its Start-Up/Small Business category for the 2021 Air Cargo Sustainability Awards.

XFret is a container that can be placed on empty seats in commercial cabins to optimise the use of aircraft.

It was selected by the audience at the TIACA Executive Summit in San Francisco, and will receive a $10,000 cash prize.

The runners-up were MissionGo, which uses drones to transport organs, and WAVES, which makes sustainability visible through the use of cloud technology. They will receive cash prizes of $2,500 each.
