TIACA names jury for 2021 Sustainability Awards

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has named six industry leaders as its jury for the 2021 TIACA Sustainability Awards.

The awards, run in partnership with CHAMP Cargosystems, recognise business and industry initiatives to make air cargo more sustainable.

Two categories are being judged, one for start-ups and small businesses, and a second one for corporate and established businesses.

The jury consists of Chris McDermott, CEO of CHAMP Cargosystems; Jaisey Yip, General Manager – Cargo and Logistics Development at Changi Airport Group; Liana Coyne, Director of Coyne Airways; Andrea Tang, International Trade Lawyer at FIATA; Patricia Varela, Assistant Manager Operations Innovation and Change Management at IATA; and Hendrik Leyssens, Vice President – Global Operations Cargo at Swissport.

They will independently evaluate the submissions for their positive impact to make air cargo more sustainable before selecting three start-ups as finalists and one corporate submission as the 2021 Corporate Air Cargo Sustainability Award winner.

The three start-up finalists will present their initiatives during the TIACA Executive Summit held in San Francisco from 22-25 March and the audience will participate in deciding which will receive the $10,000 prize for first place, with the runners up receiving $2,500 each.

The Corporate winner will be announced ahead of the event and recognised for their efforts to make air cargo more sustainable.

McDermott says: “These awards have highlighted some brilliant sustainability initiatives in the past. We, therefore, look forward to reviewing this year’s applications with great interest, and as further evidence of the air cargo industry’s ongoing commitment to this important subject.”

Steven Polmans, Chairman of TIACA adds: “We have received submissions that have different focuses, such as new energy sources, digitalisation, carbon neutrality, temperature protection and packaging, just to name a few. I am sure it will be challenging for our jury to select the winners.”
