TIACA names jury for 2022 Sustainability Awards

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has named 6 industry leaders as jurors for the 2022 TIACA Sustainability Awards.

Sponsored by CHAMP Cargosystems, the awards recognise businesses and industry initiatives to make air cargo more sustainable.

There are 2 categories, 1 for start ups and small businesses, and 1 for corporate and established businesses.

The jury consists of Chris McDermott, CEO of CHAMP Cargosystems; Liana Coyne, Director of Coyne Airways; Andrea Tang, International Trade Lawyer at FIATA; Patricia Varela, Assistant Manager Operations Innovation and Change at IATA; Hendrik Leyssens, Vice President, Global Operations, Cargo at Swissport, and Ariaen Zimmerman, independent advisor and former Executive Director of Cargo iQ.

They will evaluate submissions on whether they maximise sustainability goals that will positively impact the air cargo industry before selecting 3 start-up/small business submissions and 1 corporate submission.

The start-up/small business finalists will be asked to share their initiative with the audience at the TIACA Air Cargo Forum in Miami where the audience will decide who wins the $10,000 first-place prize and 2 runner-up prizes of $2,500 each.

The corporate winner will be announced ahead of the event and recognised for their efforts.

McDermott says, “The word sustainability has now achieved a level of recognition, challenging us to consider our impact on the planet and our stewardship for future generations. We therefore look forward to seeing how companies can respond to this challenge in this year’s TIACA Sustainability Awards, which we are delighted to sponsor for a third successive year.”

Praising the strength of the submissions, Steven Polmans, Chair of TIACA, says, “I am sure it will be challenging for our jury to select the winners. We have to thank CHAMP Cargosystems for their continued support as the exclusive sponsor of this award, without them we would not be able to formally recognise these efforts.”
