The awards, which were sponsored by CHAMP Cargosystems, recognise outstanding business and industry initiatives seeking to make air cargo more sustainable with categories for start-ups or small businesses and for corporate or established businesses.

Submissions were assessed by a jury of five industry leaders who looked at their impact on the industry and society, ease of implementation, innovation and the wow factor.

The jury, which consisted of Chris McDermott of CHAMP Cargosystems, Liana Coyne of Coyne Airways, Andrea Tang of FIATA, Patricia Varela of IATA and Ariaen Zimmerman of ASA selected a corporate winner and three start-up finalists.

Chris McDermott, CEO of CHAMP Cargosystems, says, “This year's Sustainability Awards have been such a pleasure to adjudicate, and I'm impressed by the innovation demonstrated in all submissions. All entrants and finalists should be commended for presenting truly fantastic solutions which hold tremendous opportunity for the air cargo industry.”

Asia Airfreight Terminal was named corporate winner for deploying autonomous electric tractors in air cargo terminal operations.

The three finalists gave presentations in front of an audience at the TIACA Air Cargo Forum, which is being held at the Miami Beach Convention Center from 11-14 November, who voted for a winner.

Alpha Augmented Services won the audience vote for its solution to reduce cost, CO2 emissions and waste by packing ULDs more efficiently.

The other finalists were CargoClub, which has developed a loyalty program to incentivise the use of sustainable fuel, and ReverseMi, which has developed a logistics network for a circular economy.

The winner received a $10,000 cash prize and the runners up received $2,500 each.

Glyn Hughes, Director General of TIACA, says, “Every year our industry submits so many innovative applications for the Air Cargo Sustainability Awards. The industry truly has taken this challenge to heart and is seeking unique ways to make air cargo more sustainable.”

Steven Polmans, Chairman of TIACA, adds, “I would like to also congratulate everyone that submitted an application this year for doing their part and developing projects that will continue to push us toward a sustainable future.  We look forward to seeing what submissions are received in 2025.”
