At £120m, the new London hub, located at the DP World London Gateway Logistics Park, is one of UPS’ largest single infrastructure investments outside of the US and will act as both a UK package processing and distribution centre for the local area and a gateway to UPS’s global logistics network.
The facility contains over four miles of conveyor belts and advanced package scanning and sortation equipment, with the capacity to process up to 28,000 packages per hour. More than 500 employees will operate out of the new hub.
President, UPS Europe, Lou Rivieccio, said that UPS had seen demand for its services accelerated by the growth in e-commerce, cross-border trade and unique customer needs. “This strategic investment in capacity and cutting-edge technologies in the UK is helping advance UPS’ smart global logistics network of the future,” he commented.
“This state-of-the-art facility enables us to further improve our services to companies of all sizes that are looking to grow their cross-border business,” said Mark Vale, President for UPS UK, Ireland and Nordics, adding that UPS’ export volumes in the UK had increased by nearly 20% in 2017 and more than 15% in the first quarter of 2018.
The new London Hub is part of a U$2bn infrastructure and network investment programme by UPS across Europe.
