Vienna Airport names Michael Zach as Head of Ground Services

Michael Zach has been appointed Head of Ground Services at Vienna International Airport, taking over from Franz Spitzer, who is moving into semi-retirement.

In his new role, Zach will be responsible for all cargo, baggage and ramp handling services and aircraft de-icing.

He has worked at the airport since 2006 and been responsible for Sales, Finance and Cargo within the Handling Services division since 2018.

Zach’s new role means he leads the largest division of Flughafen Wien with 1,400 employees.

Spitzer, who is moving into semi-retirement, has been with Flughafen Wien since 1994 and held various management positions including Head of Security and Head of Ground Services.

Julian Jäger and Günther Ofner, Members of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien, say, “Michael Zach is the ideal choice for the position of Head of Ground Services – he will continue the airport's successful course. At the same time, we would like to thank Franz Spitzer for his dedication and commitment to our airport, which he has played a key role in shaping for many years. We wish him all the best for this new chapter in his life.”

Commenting on his new role, Zach says, “Since 2018, I have been able to help develop ground handling at Vienna Airport together with Franz Spitzer. I am very pleased to now have the opportunity to assume overall responsibility for ground handling services at the airport and to continue the successful cooperation with my colleagues here.”
