Volga-Dnepr aids wildfire fighting efforts in Greece

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has helped support wildfire fighting efforts in Greece by transporting four water-bombers using an AN-124.

The four Bell 214Bs along with tanks and associated equipment were moved from Australia in partnership with Chapman Freeborn Australia and McDermott Aviation – Heli-Lift.

Two days after confirmation, the AN-124-100 was positioned in Australia to pick up cargo from Wellcamp Airport in Queensland then Perth, Western Australia.

The cargo weighed over 30 tonnes and two helicopters with equipment were picked up at each airport.

The water-bombers joined a fleet of other 214Bs within 48 hours of landing and reassembly and will help efforts to battle the wildfires.

Ekaterina Andreeva, commercial director of Volga-Dnepr Airlines says it was the first time the airline had transported four helicopters in one go.

She says: “This requires exquisite workmanship of the loadmasters, technicians, and crew and is only achieved by accurate calculations, powered by experience and respective competence in helicopters' transportations.”
