Volga-Dnepr and Bollore transport I6-F1 satellite

Volga-Dnepr Airlines and Bollore Logistics have delivered the Inmarsat-6 F1 communications satellite from France to Japan using an Antonov AN-124-100.

The satellite weighed around 70 tonnes but the dimensions of its container was close to the cargo compartment’s size.

Volga-Dnepr’s technical crew assisted on-site to guarantee smooth operations and loaded the satellite using internal and external cranes.

The airline and Bollore Logistics’ Space desk started discussions in 2019 and operations planning in September 2021 to move the satellite from Toulouse to Kitakyushu.

Airbus Defence and Space designed and manufactured the satellite, which will serve a variety of purposes including decreasing costs for mobile services and IoT applications.

Dmitry Vorontsov, Director – APAC Development at Volga-Dnepr Group says: “Not only does the completion of I-6 F1 logistics project strengthens our footprint in aerospace sector but it also brings our cooperation with Kitakyushu City Government/Fukuoka Prefectural Government to the next level as we see real actions aimed at enhancement of air cargo infrastructure in the airport to be able to handle such complex shipments.”
