Cool Chain Association signs MoU with PPECB

The Cool Chain Association (CCA) has celebrated turning 20 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB).

The MoU was signed at the CCA’s Airfreight Pharma Event and the two will collaborate on analysing research initiatives into perishable exports by air from South Africa.

Calling the CCA a neutral platform for all sectors in the temperature-controlled supply chain, Stavros Evangelakakis, Chairman of CCA, and Head of Global Healthcare at Cargolux Airlines International, says, “Our community is celebrating its 20th anniversary at a time when it is more vital than ever to come together to make a difference. We are proud that our members continue to do just that and are driving new ideas that will have a lasting legacy.”

Recent CCA initiatives include establishing a technical committee to drive projects including a risk management project and a trial of a new perishables label.

The PPECB provides for the control of perishables products intended for export from South Africa and has its own in-house research department, analysing quality and food safety standards.

Vijan Chetty, CCA Board Member and General Manager of PPECB, says, “The primary aim of the research is to identify gaps in the airfreight value chain and discuss possible mitigation measures with CCA and the airfreight industry at large.”
