Envirotainer and va-Q-tec combine pharma services

Envirotainer and va-Q-tec will combine their businesses following approval from the competition authorities in Germany and Austria.

By combining the two businesses, Envirotainer, which provides secure cold chain solutions for shipping temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals will supply active temperature-controlled solutions, and va-Q-tec, which specialises in thermal insulation will provide passive temperature-controlled solutions.

EQT Private Equity, the majority owner of Envirotainer had its majority takeover offer of va-Q-tec approved by the Austrian Federal Competition Authority on 30 June and the German Federal Competition Authority on 12 June.

The companies say that va-Q-tec’s advanced passive boxes and containers maintain temperatures from -180C to +20C without external energy input will be a perfect match for Envirotainer’s solutions, which include ULDs and its CryoSure dry ice shipping solution.

Preparations for integration are underway with the full combination expected to be in place during the second half of 2024.

As one, we will supercharge our ability to develop ever better, innovative and sustainable cold chain solutions. Ultimately, this will improve patient's health while reducing environmental impact.”

The non-pharmaceutical operations at va-Q-tec providing cold chain for food and vacuum insulation panels for appliances, construction, technics & industry and mobility will continue to operate separately.
